The much awaited World Boxing Organization (WBO) light middleweight bout in Nigeria received a boost on Saturday with the intent support of the Anambra State governorship aspirant, Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.
Nigeria’s King Davidson Emenogu is expected to defend his world title against Egyptian Opponent, Abdumonem Said July 26 (the new date sanctioned by WBO headquarters in America) in Abuja, a gesture capable of reviving the game of boxing in Nigeria.
Ubah said in Lagos that he is totally committed to supporting the dream by bringing the fight to Nigeria. According to him, the fight is another occasion to put Nigeria’s name in the world map especially in boxing. “I don’t know why we are not taking every opportunity that comes our way seriously. This I believe is another way of putting Nigeria’s name in the world map. I am an advocate of youth empowerment, people that know me can testify to that. Let me assure you, I am ready to support the fight in all ramifications, by making it a reality here in Nigeria,” said the Capital Oil and Gas chief executive.
Emenogu is the current WBO International Light middleweight champion, Australian Light middleweight champion, WBO Africa light middleweight champion, Pan Asia Boxing Association (PABA) light middleweight champion and IBF Pan Pacific light middleweight champion.
